Cool people and celebrities like foodbanks too!

Though it might seem like it sometimes, you don’t have to be a Labour MP in a suit to support a foodbank. It is actually possible to be cool and promote this worthy cause, as these celebrity fans (a number of whom have been to jail) prove.

This list is in ascending order of coolness. Is there anyone else who deserves to be on the list? If so, let me know and I’ll add them.

1. Katy Hill

Celebrities don’t come much smaller than former Blue Presenter Katy Hill.

2. Stan Collymore

If anyone can claim to a more minor celebrity than Katy Hill though, it’s former Liverpool striker and all round liability Stan Collymore.Image

3. The Archers

If most of us set up a ‘virtual foodbank’ it would be considered pretty weird and in poor taste. Yet when the BBC do it on the Archers it’s ok for some reason.

4. Rowan Williams

The cerebral former Archbishop of Canterbury isn’t exactly cool in the straightforward sense, but he undoubtedly has an otherworldly geek chic.

5. Millwall FC

Millwall FC are notorious for being the toughest and most violent set of football fans in England. Just last month their supporters fought each other and took drugs on the terraces during an FA Cup semi final at Wembley. Credit where credit’s due though, the club is a committed supporter of Peckham Foodbank.

6. Luol Deng

The Chicago Bulls small forward, who spent part of his childhood in South London, is one of America’s top basketball players and president Obama’s favourite athlete. He clearly hasn’t forgotten his roots.

7. Swansea Prison

Being behind bars doesn’t stop you from donating.

8. Nicky Minaj

The rapper who confused us all by singing “Jump in my hooptie hooptie hoop, I own that. And I ain’t paying my rent this month, I owe that” made more sense when she reportedly gave $15,000 to a New York foodbank.

9. Bill Nighy

Memorably played Davy Jones (complete with octopus beard) in the largely forgettable Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, Dead Man’s Chest. He also visited a foodbank once.

10. Snoop Dogg/Lion/Unicorn

Who knows what the American rapper is on about here but it seems to have something to do with foodbanks.

11. Floyd Mayweather

Like Snoop Dogg and the inmates in Swansea Prison, Mayweather has done time (for domestic abuse). He is widely considered the best boxer in the world and is generally a pretty hard guy.

12. Justin Bieber

Anne Frank fan and Canadian eccentric, Bieber and his mum used a foodbank before he was famous.

13. Barack Obama

Though I promised no boring men in suits, Barack Obama is more of a rockstar who dabbles in politics on the side.
